Marking Knives Czeck Edge marking knives feature comfortable handles than fit the hand very well for demanding layout work. They are turned from exotic hardwoods selected for beauty and durability. Sanded thru 2000 grit they have an easily restorable shellac based finish. Our blades are O-1 tool steel. They are cut using state-of-the-art CNC machinery. Each blade is professionally oven heat treated in an aircraft certified facility to RC 59 - 60. They are then bead blasted, precision ground on the bevel edges, top, bottom, sides and tangs then satin polished. The ferrules are machined from solid bronze bar stock with three grip assist rings on each. We offer marking knives in three distinct sizes and styles for light, medium and heavy duty layout work: The Kerf Kadet, the new Pattern Pilot and the Line Driver. Kerf Kadet The Kerf Kadet has been designed for marking out the detail that fine joinery demands. Pins for dovetails can be defined from tails barely wider than the kerf created by most dovetail hand saws. The .029 thick sword point blade makes this task accurate, easy and routine. Overall, the blade measures 5/16 wide with a projection of 1 5/16 and a 44 degree included angle forming the point. The dual edge bevels are ground to 40 degrees on the top of the blade only. The back of the blade is flat permitting the point to register snugly against a straightedge from either the left or right side. The handle for the Kerf Kadet is proportioned to facilitate light duty marking being pencil like in the grip area. The contour of the exotic wood handle makes a flowing, uninterrupted transition to the ferrule. The machined bronze ferrule has three grooves which permit a comfortable perch for the index finger. These ergonomic features combine to provide the craftsman with a degree of control unique to the Kerf Kadet.. You may choose from two levels of popular exotic hardwoods when making your Kerf Kadet purchase.
Pattern Pilot The Pattern Pilot easily navigates layout challenges with certainty, exactness and comfort. It is the newest addition to the Czeck Edge Marking Knife Line bridging the gap equally between the nimble Kerf Kadet and the robust Line Driver. The 1 3/4 long blade is .060 thick and 3/8 wide with a 65 degree included angle forming the point. The dual edge bevels are ground to 40 degrees on the top of the blade only. The back of the blade is flat permitting the point to register snugly against a straightedge from either the left or right side. This feature is common to all models of Czeck Edge marking knives. The Pattern Pilot handle accommodates lighter to standard duty marking having a very stout pencil like profile in the grip area. This profile is very similar to that found on the Kerf Kadet making for a transparent experience when transitioning between the two for demanding layout situations. Like the Kerf Kadet, the contour of the exotic wood handle makes a flowing, uninterrupted transition to the ferrule. The ½ diameter machined bronze ferrule has three grooves which permit an accomodating perch for the index finger. These ergonomic features combine to provide the craftsman with a degree of control and strength that is the essence of the Pattern Pilot. You may choose from two levels of popular exotic hardwoods when making your Pattern Pilot purchase.
Line Driver The Fatboy II has been given a leaner profile, a new ferrule design and a new name: The Line Driver. One thing did not change is the capability to perform the most demanding layout duties with accuracy and ease. The sword point blade is 1/8" thick, 1/2" wide by 1 7/8 long with a 65 degree included angle forming the point. The dual edge bevels are ground to 35 degrees on the top of the blade only. The back of the blade is flat permitting the point to register snugly against a straightedge from either the left or right side, a feature common to all models of Czeck Edge marking knives. The Line Driver has a redesigned handle which is slightly thinner and provides a more ergonomic grip area for the index finger and thumb, enhancing both comfort and control. The Line Driver still retains its traditional heft allowing it to create deep, wide lines for positive chisel or hand saw registration. Each blade is hand stropped to ensure a keen edge. Choose between two levels of exotic hardwood for you Line Driver.
