Wood Species

Bloodwood - The best choice for a sophisticated red color. The red stays red regardless of exposure to sunlight over time. Turns easily and takes detail fairly well. Nice weight and heft.

Cocobolo - Very rich, multiple color contrasts with wider grain lines that can blend together. Easily turned, it can be detailed fairly well. Nice heft and exotic appearance, a respectable choice for any handle style. Recommended.

Ebony, Macassar - Great dark color but usually enough contrast to showcase medium to larger sized grain lines. Wood finishes to almost an oily sheen and smoothness. Takes detail well. Great heft and exotic appearance.

Kingwood - Rich, sophisticated chocolate coloring with excellent grain contrast. A pleasure to turn, much like ebony. Great heft and appearance, an excellent choice for any style. Another favorite, recommended highly.

Olive Wood, African - A lighter wood with very subtle grain appearance although striking contrasts in grain are not uncommon. Easy to turn, takes detail very well. Finish has a waxy smoothness, similar to ebony above. An excellent choice when a lighter wood is desired. Recommended.

Rosewood, Honduran - Rich lighter brown color, but smaller, tighter, more interesting grain patterns like bocote. Easily turned and takes details nicely. A great combination of heft and appearance it makes an excellent choice for any handle style. Recommended.
